Don’t Pressure Yourself to Live Up to the Hype of a New Year

I hated the hype of a new year when my mom was living with Alzheimer’s.

It seemed like everyone was given the promise of a fresh start—a new beginning—except for me.

I rolled my eyes at everyone with their goals and resolutions because it made me feel like I was stuck or behind in some way.

I hated feeling like I had to change something about myself or my life when I knew it was just going to be more of the same for me.

Watching my mom slowly decline from Alzheimer’s was bad enough but the pressure of a new year somehow made me feel even worse.

If this sounds like you, please know that I understand. I really do.

The new year may not symbolize a fresh start for you.

It may just mean more of the same or it may even be the beginning of the end for you.

Don’t pressure yourself to live up to the hype of a new year.

You are not stuck.

You are not behind.

You are not obligated to change anything.

Right now, you are exactly where you are supposed to be.

Be there.

Everything else can wait.
